To go along with yesterday's post on home birth and choosing the best decision for you. I wanted to share this incredibly helpful article from my new favourite Motherhood resource, MOTHER Mag. I have to praise them for their website and content, as a soon-to-be Mum and first time pregnant lady I find their advice so helpful and relatable.

It can be a tad overwhelming when doing research on birth and pregnancy online, but especially when researching home births. There is a massive amount of information and I found a lot of it can contradict each other. So what worked best for me was finding the right midwife for what I was looking for and getting majority of my information from her directly. Like I mentioned yesterday, it can be a real struggle to find a midwife that suits you and the type of birth you want. Ultimately you want someone who you click with, who you really like, and someone who puts you at ease and calms you down. But before you make your final decision on which midwife to choose, you should ask them these questions...
  1. How long have you worked as a midwife?
  2. What is your training? For example is their title CNM, CM, CPM, etc.
  3. What is your birth philosophy? What inspired you to become a midwife?
  4. How many home births have you performed?
  5. How many births do you attend each month?
  6. Do you work alone or in a team during labor?
  7. What is the total cost of care? And what is included?
  8. Is any portion of the cost refundable if care is transferred to an OB at any point prior to the birth?
  9. Have any of your clients been successful at recovering all or portions of your charges through their health insurance plans? (Typically this only applies to PPOs)
  10. Do you work with a service to help clients with insurance claims?
These are the first 10 Questions from the list, to see the full 40 Questions check them out here.
