ROOM REFRESHER WITH CHRISTMAS CLEMENTINES

December 27, 2014

Just after Christmas there is always an abundance of clementines in my home. I always buy bags and bags of them as soon as they hit the markets, but this year James received many from his clients who grow them in their gardens as well. This season I had way too many eat, so instead of throwing the older ones away, I made a lovely room refresher with them. This homemade fragrance is especially great for the winter season, because I find my home can feel stuffy with the heaters on and the windows closed all the time. As soon as the clementines have infused with the water, your home will instantly feel refreshed and clean.

Clementine Room Refresher

4 clementines peeled and separated
12 cloves
4 drops of rosemary essential oil
1 drop of mint essential oil
1 drop of eucalyptus essential oil
1 cinnamon stick
4 - 5 cups of water

Place all of the ingredients, including the clementine peels into a pot. Heat on medium high until the mixture boils up. Once boiled you can leave it simmering and steaming away on low heat as long as you want. I usually place mine close to the radiator to help infuse the air even more. Once the smell is gone and the clementines have been boiled down, wait to cool then discard.

There is no real science to the recipe. I make it often and it's a little different every time. So get creative and try it out with different essential oils, herbs and other fruit like apples or lemons. This infusion is especially nice to make just before guests arrive at your home. Try it out and please let me know if you have found other ingredients that work well. Enjoy!
