BYE BYE 2014!

December 30, 2014

Wow, is it just me or has this year flown by quicker than all the others?
I have to say 2014 was my favourite year to date. The main highlight of course was getting married to my dream man and love of my life, James. We had the most whimsical and beautiful wedding in Fayence, France, surrounded by our family and friends who traveled from all over the world to be there for us. Followed by a gorgeous week away in Lucca, Italy with my closest friends from Toronto. I traveled to Toronto two times both a bit unexpected because of issues with my French immigration. After many battles with the consulate and French government I was finally granted residency. Now after two years of living here, I finally feel secure and at home, and am still so in love with this country.

We went through six months of intense home renovations and moved into the most amazing village home in Le Cannet. I fulfilled my dream to decorate and style an entire home, and have really discovered a new passion for interior design. It is such an amazing feeling after waiting over a year to find a place to call home and to grow and make memories in.

James and I spent a few weekends this year exploring the beauty of the South of France, though I wish I could have seen much more. One of my most memorable trips was to Gorge du Verdon, which is considered the most beautiful canyons in Europe (I have to agree with them there). If you ever make it out to this part of the world, it is a must see.

We had an exciting new addition to our little family, we adopted a little girl dog named Roo. For the past year we were keeping our eyes open on the rescue websites for a dog that would be a good friend for Pee wee. In October we went to an open house at a dog rescue close to Toulon, and as soon as I was let into Roo's cage she leapt into my arms, and that was that. She is the sweetest, most affectionate dog who just wants all the love we can give her. Pee wee and her instantly got along and are now best buds, so that has really helped her feel at home much quicker.

It's so funny how much can happen in one year and when I sit down to write about it all, I can condense it into just a few paragraphs. Leading into 2015 I am looking forward to see what this year will hold for me. I am eager to continue sharing my life, projects, recipes and adventures with you here, and hope to build Maple + Macaron up even more. I never expect too much when approaching a new year. I have found in the past I can make all these goals and resolutions for myself and two months in I have completely let myself down. Last year when I was entering 2014, my only expectations were to have a year full of fun, love and adventure, and I think I accomplished all of those things almost every day. This new year I am entering it with the same attitude as I had before, but with a few hopes for where I will be this time next year. I hope to travel to new and exciting countries and take advantage of where I am located, to hop on a train and discover an new European city. James and I are hoping to grow our little family even more, but are trying not to put too much pressure on ourselves, which can be hard. Finally I hope to see more of my family both in Canada and having them make the trip to see us here. Living far away from them does become easier as time passes, but it is very important that we maintain our strong bonds by spending as much time as we can together, even if that means hopping on a plane.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been there for me this year and for making new and lasting memories. There are so many people who made my year as great as it was, and I appreciate you all for it. Thank you to you, for taking the time to read Maple + Macaron and for sharing in my life.
I wish you all a Happy New Year, and hope your 2015 is filled with love, happiness and adventure.
