LOVE ADVICE FROM A 98 YEAR OLD

October 24, 2013

I love getting advice from my elders, but when it is from a 98 year old woman and she is giving advice about relationships, love and sex, that's even better! Esquire took this interview from the book You Can Be Right (or You Can Be Married): Looking for Love in the Age of Divorce by Dana Adam Shapiro. Pauline was one of the many divorcees interviewed and her candid and hilarious answers are some of the best advice I have read to date. I will definitely take some of her tips into my own soon-to-be marriage.

I loved this question and answer:

Why does love die?
I’ll tell you why. One of you drifts away. You have to have a lot in common to stay married. If he wants to go dancing and you don’t want to go, well, that’s okay occasionally, but don’t do it every night because you can be sure that he’ll find someone else to dance with. Even drinking. Some men like to go to a bar and have a few drinks. So they meet people at the bar. And before you know it, they’re involved a little bit. That’s the way it is. You need to do things together.
