HOME SWEET HOME

October 12, 2013

We got the keys to our house in early August and renovations started only a few days ago, and let's just say I am a little excited about it. I can't tell you how long I have waited to have a house of my own, to design the look of it, and be there for every step of the renovation process.

Now this house is old, and I am not talking North American old where if you live in a house built in 1910 that is ancient. My house was built in 1760 back when monks occupied the village, and when my house was used as the stables for the monk's horses. In a way I get a bit creeped out knowing the house is so old, but don't worry I bought a smudge stick so I will cleanse any bad energy right out of there. We bought the house from a retired American couple whose family has owned it for three generations since the 1950's. It was so nice to get a bit of history from them and hear all of the amazing stories they had about the house. They loved that they were selling it to a Canadian so I think that helped the sale along.

We are hoping that we can move in before Christmas, but like most of you know deadlines are rarely reached when dealing with renovations and contractors. So we are hoping for the best, but are being very realistic when it comes to the move in date.

I will be documenting the progress along the way, so for now here are the before pictures of the outside and main floor.

As you can see this place needs an update and needs to be lightened and made more modern. There is just so much potential and so many things that can be done, I can't wait to see it unfold.

  1. Hi! I live in Mougins and my friend Laure runs Madeleine in me Cannet. Her partner, Olivier did all of the work on the interior and did an AMAZING job on our house in Mougins that looked a lot like your house did before we remodeled it. If you haven't found someone to do the work, Olivier is the best. And if you have found someone , I suggest you fire them and call Olivier straight away! :) A major plus: Laure and Olivier live on rue St Sauveur! Bisous and welcome to town!

  2. Bonjour! I checked out your blog and your house looks amazing! Such a small world, I've met Laure and Olivier and he actually came by our house to see what he could do. Unfortunately my in-laws made the final decision and hired the contractors that worked on their house. haha I wish I could fire them now seeing the amazing work Olivier did with your place! Hopefully mine turns out just as good :) Bisous
